What is Ingƿina Hæðenscipe?

Our tradition is a modern revival of the ancient, so-called “pagan” religious practices of the North Sea Germanic peoples, reconnecting with the spiritual and cultural heritage of our ancestors. If you are unsure who the North Sea Germanic people (Ingvaeones) were, are completely new to the idea of contemporary pagan spirituality, or just want a bit of historical context for our revival, check out this synopsis of Ingwine Heathenship.

The Basics of Modern Heathenship

Modern Ingwine Heathenship, is founded upon a few core teachings. First, we look at the important customs and traditions of ancient North Sea peoples, and decide which of these traditions are the most central, the most important to our modern practice. These, we call Fyrnsida. Then, we develop contemporary customs, a system of ethics, and moral guidance based upon these, in service of our overall religious goals.

Our Core Articles of Faith

At the heart of our ethos lies the profound belief that the intricate tapestries of our souls and minds as well as the formidable forces of nature that surround us, are not mere impersonal abstractions. Instead, we view them through the venerable lens of our spiritual forebears, embodying them as deities whose narratives and essences have been woven into the fabric of our collective consciousness for millennia. This pantheon of personified powers serves as a bridge between the tangible and the transcendent, offering us a means to engage with the world’s mysteries in a manner that is both intimate and reverent.

Central to our creed is the conviction that the cosmos is imbued with a vital spirit that in a sense, animates every leaf, stone, and star. It is this universal life force that connects us to the broader web of existence, inviting us to partake in a dialogue with the divine that is both ancient and ever-unfolding. We expand upon this core idea of animism by connecting it to other attested and recently adopted Heathen beliefs and practices, and then examining where these concepts sit within a modern, unified Heathen theology.

Guided by this vision, we dedicate ourselves to the Threefold Goal.
