Lifwraðu is an Old English word meaning ‘Defense of Life,’ and that is what this initiative was created for. The Ingvaeonic Society has established the Lifwraðu Fund in accordance with our mission to create positive social institutions for Heathens, some of whom are economically marginalized or vulnerable to natural and economic disasters. Suppose a member of the Ingwine Heathen community has been stricken with illness, suffered from a natural disaster, or undergone a harmful life-changing event such as the loss of a spouse. In that case, funds may be disbursed by the Ingvaeonic Society to that person to help them out during such a difficult time.
A non-voting member of the Society who wishes to apply for relief under this program must be able to document the disaster or life-changing event and must receive an endorsement from a High Priest or Priestess of the Society, who can pass their application for aid to the Governing Board of the Society, the Geþing.
Following are the events that qualify for aid:
- You have recently lost a spouse, child or partner
- You are suffering from illness, or have a dependent child suffering from illness
- You have suffered from a natural disaster
- You have recently suffered an injury requiring hospitalization or a hospital visit
- You have been recently victimized in a crime
